Sorting Artifacts

  • Content Area: Math, Social Studies, Readiness Skills, Visual Art
  • Grade: Pre-K through 2  
  • Tech Needs: Whiteboard or Projector, laptop 
  • Estimated Time: 50 min. sessions, two days

Essential Question: 

How can quantities of human-made objects be compared?

Objectives: 

  1. By using matching and counting strategies, identify whether the number of objects in one group is greater than, less than, or equal to the number of objects in another group.
  2. Count to answer “how many?” questions about as many as twenty things arranged in a line or as many as ten things in a scattered configuration.

Extensions/Adaptations:

  • Teach the students the classification names and numbers in Spanish.
For example: 
glass bottle = botella de vidrio
metal nail = clavo metalico
ceramics = cerámica
toy = juguete
